Pictured are the first lot of ewe lambs (or hoggs as they are called in Cumbria) of Aberdales from the Swaledale breed. These are pictured at Thornthwaite Hall, Penrith and 38 of them were tupped as ewe lambs and these are just 2 of those that are due to lamb in May. Shepherd Jim Campbell and owner Michael Wentworth-Waites are happy with the way the first crop of ewe lambs have overwintered and it will now just be a case of wait and see to evaluate how these will perform as mothers.
The Aberdale breeding programme is set to grow again this year and we are looking for more farmers who may have suitable ewes to produce Aberdale crossbreds for us.
